Academic Mentorship
Test Prep

Tim is in his 18th year of full-time tutoring, specializing in all levels of mathematics, physics, standardized test prep (ACT/SAT), chemistry, and economics throughout that time. His undergraduate degree is in mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis, and he has his Masters of Arts in Teaching from Bard. Throughout his extensive career, Tim has worked with students from all across New York City and the world, spanning from Kindergarten to graduate-level coursework.
Tim believes that learning math, or any subject really, is more than just algorithms and patterns. Learning involves doing, and it’s hard to get that from a textbook, and sometimes from a classroom. The best way to learn is to have a mentor who has seen everything before, and knows a variety of ways to think about particular problems, who can figure out which methods will work best for each individual student. It’s also beneficial to have someone who is personable and engaging, and who knows that there’s more to learning than simply looking at problems.
In his free time, Tim enjoys all things puzzles. He has been on the U.S. Team for logic puzzles, has been the alternate for the U.S. Sudoku team, and is currently the New York State champion of jigsaw puzzles. He is on a team that won the M.I.T. Mystery Hunt in 2025, and was a top five puzzle author for the 2026 Mystery Hunt.
