Brittany Gianoli grew up in the foothills of Shenandoah National Park in rural Virginia and began working with students at the age of 16. After high school, Brittany attended George Mason University, where she majored in social work. She was selected as the program's "Outstanding BSW Graduate" for her graduating class and was honored to receive a summa cum laude designation—a big deal for a first-generation college student! After college, Brittany pursued her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree through the University of Southern California, where she specialized in working with children and families. Brittany's most recent role includes serving as the Executive Director of the Headwaters Foundation, where she implemented a host of youth programs focused on literacy, mentorship, and college/career preparation. She also supported students with scholarship applications and in the resume writing process. She received her county's "Citizen of the Year" award in 2023 to honor her work in the field of public education.
Brittany believes that every student has a compelling story to tell, even if it takes several meetings to tease out. She merges humor and patience with a love of writing, which she brings to each meeting. Her favorite part of the essay writing process is getting to know her students individually and helping them unlock their voice on paper. She is also a stickler for meeting application deadlines and ensuring students get to enjoy as much of their senior year as possible!
When Brittany isn't working with students, you can usually find her chasing after her two little girls or engaging in work that supports the young people in her community.
