Sam is a long-time artist, tutor, and SEN assistant with over 7 years experience as an educator, and a passion for empathetic education. She grew up in South West London, taking up tutoring during secondary school. She was fortunate enough to have tutors during the academically challenging years of her life, and found them to be pivotal to her success, yet she was surrounded by peers who were not able to access the same resources and this deeply upset her. This inspired her to take up tutoring herself, at low rates to ensure affordability for all. Being able to help struggling students break complex concepts down into smaller, more digestible chunks, and develop their overall academic confience fulfilled her immensely, marking her entry into the world of education.
She mastered in Electronic Engineering at Royal Holloway University, specialising in sustainable studies, yet transitioned back into arts and education shortly after graduating as she found them to be more emotionally satisfying. Nevertheless, she maintains her technical accumen and mathematical prowess, combining these with creative problem solving skills, and years of working as an educator to meet each student where they're at, adapting to their needs and learning style. She has experience tutoring students in A-Level maths, and GCSE chemistry, physics, biology and English.
Sam is an avid yoga and meditation practitioner, and utilises her knowledge in these fields to help students manage feelings of stress, frustation, fear, or whatever they may be dealing with. She believes education is a holistic entity, setting aside time at the start of the session to check in with her students. She understands that each individual will have their own relationship with learning, dominantly coloured by their lived experiences and emotional realities, and dedicates herself to continuously learning about and understanding her students in order to be the best educator she can be. She's always believed that the role of a educator extends far beyond education, and aims to be a pillar of empathy and support for all of her students, fostering a space wherein they can grow not only on an academic level, but a personal one too.
In her spare time, Sam loves to paint, cook, practice yoga and hike. She is in the midst of starting a creative community through art-based events. She is also an avid reader, and is currently enjoying All My Mothers by Joanna Glenn. She loves language, and is trying to expand her linguistic capabilities by improving her French, and beginning Arabic. She deeply believes the best educators are those who are continuously dedicated to learning - forever students. Her colleagues would describe her as empathetic, warm, creative, adaptable, and deeply curious.
