While majoring in American Studies at Pomona College, Abeni worked as a Senior Interviewer in the college's admissions office. Upon graduation, she became an Admissions Officer at Caltech, developing a deeper understanding of the college admissions process. Since leaving education, she's written for a variety of brands across a myriad of sectors, whilst always making time to work with students to craft unique, impactful essays.
When working with students, Abeni always establishes a personal connection. She recognizes that sharing one's inner thoughts is a vulnerable endeavor, and tries to make space for levity and fun inside a process that can feel daunting and tedious. She encourages students to write from a place of passion, showcasing their unique quirks, interests, and voice. Having read hundreds of college essays, she knows that what really stands out is specificity and a strong point of view.
Originally from Chicago, but currently based in Los Angeles, Abeni enjoys bragging to her family about the weather, convincing herself that LA is, in fact, a walkable city, and indulging her passions as a bibliophile, storyteller, and foodie. Current obsessions include astrology, Swedish sour candy, songwriting, and strength training.
