Florentine van Nouhuijs kick-started her academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Netherlands. This solid foundation paved the way for her entrance into the dynamic world of education, and in 2017 Florentine joined Lyceo, a Dutch academic services company, where she ended up working full-time (and leading a team) through the pandemic. There, she found her passion for teaching, which inspired her to take on another teaching job with the “traveling DNA lab”, a team of science students that travel throughout the Netherlands to teach Biology. From cell preparation to microscopic observation, Florentine relished every moment of igniting curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific exploration. Transitioning to the United States, Florentine pursued a Master’s in Cell and Molecular Biology, with a data science focus. Blending research and teaching, she guides students through the intricacies of biology and data science.
After many years of teaching students, Florentine has found that every student is different and has a unique learning path. She takes the time to get to know her students and what learning strategy works best for them and then adjusts her teaching style to their specific needs. Having worked with students who struggled for various reasons, such as financial hardship or lack of support from family, Florentine is adept at helping students gain newfound confidence no matter their challenges or circumstances.
A fun fact about Florentine is that she is a runner. The Netherlands is known for its flat terrain, which makes running there fairly easy. She is now located in Pacifica, California—a beautiful beach town, but far from flat! Running here is a challenge, but she loves challenges so has just signed up for her second half-marathon in the USA.
