“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”

Maya Angelou

Will is ESM Prep’s Partnerships and Alumni Relations Manager. He is driven by his passion for helping young people achieve their goals and genuinely believes that great things can be achieved through hard work and perseverance. His role allows him to stay connected to former ESM students, share their experiences, and support them as they navigate college and beyond. He also gets to seek out new and exciting partnership opportunities.

Will learned the value of academic achievement and the need for quality mentorship outside of the home at an early age. In high school he used his good grades, athletic talents, and guidance from trusted advisors to earn scholarships for academics and athletics to Mizzou and Ole Miss. After playing four years of collegiate baseball he jumped right into coaching, and from there mentoring was just a natural progression.

Will enjoys taking the time to get to know his students, understanding their needs and creating a plan for their success. His upbeat demeanor and youthful exuberance help him to build rapport quickly and provides a level of relatability to people of all ages and backgrounds. He is very well organized and holds himself and others accountable to their goals. He also understands the importance of managing mental health and appreciates mindfulness and emotional intelligence.

With nearly 20 years of coaching and writing experience, Will brings a unique perspective to the ESM team. As a high school and youth baseball coach in Northern California he won a CIF section title and a youth national championship. He has also published three books and wrote a regular newspaper column about fatherhood.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from California State University, Sacramento, and lives in Vacaville with his son Jaheem and their little dog Jackie Robinson.
