Riki Walter grew up in Merced, CA, where she found an early love for mentorship and tutoring through her high school’s Link Crew Program. After graduating high school, she went on to UCLA where she graduated with a degree in both African American Studies and Sociology. While at UCLA, she spent all four years as an academic mentor to disadvantaged youth from diverse backgrounds through the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP). With EAOP, Riki mentored thousands of different students into a vast array of post high school plans including admission to universities, entry into the workforce, gap years, trade schools, etc. She single-handedly guided hundreds of students each year through every step of the college admissions process, from planning class schedules, tutoring various subjects, preparing for SATs, ACTs, and AP exams, and editing college applications. Through this work, she was able to fuel and refine her skills for academic mentorship, as well as create lifelong bonds with students, many of whom she keeps in contact with today.

Riki is passionate about establishing unique bonds with each individual student she mentors.

Throughout her own time as a student, she has learned that the best way to truly understand a subject is to relate it to one’s own personal experiences while thinking through the material. This technique enables her to break down even the most difficult concept into something fun and digestible for every student. She is skilled in tutoring English, history, government, economics, algebra, geometry, SAT/ACT test-taking skills, AP exam prep, and college essay editing.

Currently, Riki is a law student completing her Juris Doctorate at UC Davis School of Law. She is passionate about education and youth law. She works with the juvenile court division of a public defender’s office, advocating for youth rehabilitation and access to better opportunities. She also works as a teacher’s assistant for the undergraduate department of African American Studies at UC Davis.

In her spare time, Riki loves listening to music, working out, and reading romance novels.
