"No one should teach who is not in love with learning."

My mom

Barret (more commonly known as "Barrie") grew up in Northern California and attended high school at Sacramento Country Day School, where he took all of the advanced math and science classes he could and served his school as both student body president and as the students' official go-to math tutor. He attended undergraduate studies at UCLA, and--as a lover of biology, math, cultural studies, and tutoring--he made sure to gain some lab experience working directly on some PCR experiments, help his team members in an engineering organization develop some 3D printed prosthetic hands for people in need, minor in Mandarin Chinese studies, and obtain employment at two part-time tutoring jobs and one volunteer tutoring organization. Always engaged in studies or tutoring, he learned as much as he could from his classes and from others who shared varied educational backgrounds so that he could become an even better tutor and mentor for the students he taught at local middle and high schools in the LAUSD.

After graduating from UCLA, he decided to travel abroad and lived in Shanghai for three years, where he continued his studies in Mandarin and taught students of varying ages in a wide range of subjects, including English, biology, physics, chemistry, US history, math, and SAT and TOEFL test-taking skills. In his last year living in Shanghai, he put his newly acquired experience in Python and C++ to the test during his employment with DFRobot, a robotics company which focuses on providing STEM/STEAM educational materials and products for students globally. He was pleased to overcome the coding and robotics challenges assigned to him with ease, and felt right at home when aiding his coworkers in developing educational curriculum and teaching materials for students using the company's proprietary coding educational software.

He has recently been studying books on electrical engineering, algorithmic sciences, machine learning, and bioinformatics, and has already started using some of the principles he has learned from these topics in his hobbies. He is eager and willing to teach any and all of what he learns to others and hopes to impart a similar drive to learn to his students. Barret wishes to be able to provide his students with enough examples of how fundamental topics taught in their classes become important in different real-world occupations and projects, so that they will never be left without an answer to the question "Why is this important?"
